Durat at the Habitare Materials Exhibition

Durat will be at the Habitare Materials & Objects exhibition at the Habitare fair on 10–14 September at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre

Habitarematerials is a new kind of interactive material library at Habitare, where visitors can explore surface materials.

You'll find samples from finnish material manufacturers on display in loads of different colours and patterns. Visitors are encouraged to touch and feel the textures and build their own material compositions from the samples.

Habitare Materials & Objects is all about showcasing Finnish design and materials that are both ethical and eco-friendly. The exhibition has been put together by NEMO Architects Maria Klemetti Laine and Jussi Laine.

Durat has implemented the principles of the circular economy since its founding more than thirty years ago. We commit to buy back old Durat furniture and material offcuts from fabrication. Any surface damage can be refurbished with a light sanding.

Durat's first EPD environmental report is certified

An Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, is a document which transparently communicates the environmental performance or impact of any product or material over its lifetime. EPD's signal a manufacturer's commitment to measuring and reducing the environmental impact of its products and services and report these impacts in a transparent way.

When developing an EPD, the environmental performance of the product shall be described from a life cycle perspective by carrying out a life cycle assessment (LCA) of the product. The product's environmental impacts have therefore been collected and calculated from raw material acquisition to final disposal.

According to the calculations made for the environmental report, Durat's carbon footprint is 3,35 kgCO2e.

Durat is manufactured by crushing recycled post-industrial waste plastic into granulates. This creates a distinctive, vivid 3D surface that is sumptuously silky and warm to touch. The material is then cast into sheets as well as various bathtubs and sinks.
